Evidence-based trauma treatment
EMDR & Accelerated Resolution Therapy
Well-researched, trauma-focused therapies for PTSD, anxiety, and distressing memories — available via telehealth in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maine.
What Is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR is a well-researched approach commonly used to help people process distressing memories and trauma-related experiences. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation — typically guided eye movements — to support processing of difficult memories so they carry less emotional weight over time.
EMDR is recognized as an effective treatment for PTSD by the American Psychological Association, the World Health Organization, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Who Can Benefit From EMDR?
EMDR was originally developed for PTSD, but research has expanded its application to a wide range of concerns.
PTSD & trauma
Single-incident trauma, complex trauma, childhood abuse, assault, accidents, and other traumatic experiences.
Anxiety & panic
Generalized anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, and anxiety rooted in past experiences.
Grief & loss
Processing complicated grief, sudden loss, and the emotional weight of significant life changes.
Depression
Depression linked to unresolved trauma, negative core beliefs, or distressing life events.
Relationship patterns
Attachment wounds, trust issues, and relational patterns rooted in early experiences.
What Is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a brief, directive therapy that uses eye movements and voluntary image rescripting to help process trauma and distressing memories. ART works by helping clients replace disturbing images with positive ones, and many clients report meaningful relief in fewer sessions than traditional approaches.
Clinical research on ART has shown promising results for reducing symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety, and phobias. As with any therapy, individual outcomes vary.
EMDR & ART for Trauma & PTSD
Both EMDR and ART are evidence-based approaches for trauma and PTSD. While they share similarities — including the use of eye movements and a focus on memory processing — they differ in structure and technique. Your clinician will work with you to determine which approach best fits your needs, history, and goals.

What to Expect During Treatment
Initial consultation
Your clinician will take time to understand your history, goals, and concerns before recommending a treatment approach.
Preparation
Before beginning EMDR or ART processing, your clinician will ensure you have the coping skills and stability needed to engage safely.
Processing sessions
Using bilateral stimulation (EMDR) or guided imagery and eye movements (ART), your clinician will help you process targeted memories and experiences.
Integration
Between and after sessions, you'll notice shifts in how memories feel and how you respond to triggers as healing takes place.
Is EMDR or ART Right for You?
EMDR and ART are not right for everyone, and the decision to pursue either approach is made collaboratively with your clinician. Both therapies require a degree of emotional stability and readiness to engage with difficult memories. If you're unsure whether EMDR or ART is appropriate for your situation, a free 15-minute consultation is a good place to start.
